What parents ask before ordering a personalized Diwali book

If you're looking for a Diwali gift that isn't sweets or another outfit, a way to build up to the night itself, or something that reflects how your family actually celebrates — here's how a personalized Diwali book works and what makes this one different.

1

Why one book instead of a 'First Diwali' and a 'Happy Diwali'?

Because the thing that changes between a one-year-old's Diwali and a seven-year-old's isn't the day, it's how much of it they do. So the story is the same fourteen moments and the narration moves: at one they're watching the lights and holding a marigold; at seven they're designing a corner of the rangoli and deciding where the diyas go. One book, one URL, one thing to keep buying each year.

2

How do you handle the religious side of Diwali?

By handing it back to you. The book shows a family's day, not a lesson: no origin story, no deity, no idol, no script, no ritual we made up. If your Diwali includes a prayer or puja you tell us so, and pages six to eight become getting ready for prayer, a quiet family prayer and the blessings after — pointed at the people, never at an object of worship. Choose 'Other' to describe your own prayer in your words; we only name a deity if you do, and we never draw one. If your Diwali has no prayer, those pages become wrapping gifts, your own family tradition and the Happy Diwali wishes.

3

What if we don't do fireworks?

Then there won't be any. One optional question asks how your family celebrates at night — diyas and lights, sparklers, watching fireworks, a family gathering, or your own answer — and if you skip it, page thirteen is your child among the lanterns and lights, with no sparklers or fireworks in any look.

4

What makes this different from a name-swap Diwali book?

Most personalized Diwali books drop your child's name into a story that's otherwise identical for everyone. This one is illustrated from your photo, so your child is recognisably themselves in all fourteen scenes, and it's written around your answers: the outfit they're actually wearing, their favourite sweet, whether there's a puja, how you celebrate at night, the one tradition you asked us to include — and, if they're in your photo, their family, called by the words your child actually uses.

Frequently asked questions about personalized Diwali books for kids

What is a personalized Diwali book?

A personalized Diwali book is a custom storybook in which your own child is the main character, illustrated from a photo you upload rather than drawn as a generic child. This one follows a single Diwali from waking up excited to falling asleep with one diya still glowing, with your family's own traditions written into it.

Can I make a First Diwali book for a baby?

Yes — just tell us they're one or two and the story adapts. At that age the child watches, reaches, and helps with one simple safe thing a page, in short 12–18 word sentences. There's no separate baby product to choose.

Will my child be shown lighting a diya?

Not on their own, and never with an open flame in a small child's hands. For younger children a grown-up beside them does the lighting while your child watches from close by or holds an unlit diya. For older children an adult is right beside them, sharing the moment. Flames stay small and contained in the diyas throughout.

Does the book include a puja or prayer scene?

Only if you say yes (or describe your own under 'Other'). If you do, pages six to eight become getting ready for prayer, a gentle family prayer and the blessings after — your child and the grown-ups quiet and side by side with a lamp, flowers and a small tray. It names no deity, tells no origin story, shows no idol or religious symbol, and includes no ritual you didn't describe yourself. If you say no, those pages become wrapping gifts, your own family tradition and the Happy Diwali wishes instead.

Can I choose whether sparklers or fireworks appear?

Yes. You tell us how your family celebrates at night: diyas and lights, one small sparkler held safely with a grown-up, fireworks watched from a distance, a family gathering, or your own answer. If you skip the question, no look shows any sparklers or fireworks.

What outfit will my child be wearing?

Whatever you choose — kurta pajama, lehenga, a party dress, salwar suit, a saree-style outfit, or something you describe in your own words. They put it on at page two and wear the same outfit, drawn the same way, through to the end of the book.

Can I include a family tradition of our own?

Yes. There's an optional box for one thing you want in the book — visiting family, a temple, gurdwara or derasar visit, making a particular sweet, giving gifts, decorating with flowers. It becomes one real moment in the story rather than a sentence explaining your family.

What can I personalize in the Diwali book?

Your child's name and face, their age, the look of the book, their illustration style, their Diwali outfit, family from your photo (optional) and what your child calls them, whether there's a prayer, their favourite sweet, how you celebrate at night, one tradition of your own, who the book is from, and a dedication message.

How long does it take to make?

About two minutes to answer the questions, and the preview appears straight away. Most of the questions are a single tap, and the optional ones can all be skipped.

Can I preview the book for free, and how much does it cost?

Creating and previewing your book is completely free — no account and no card needed. You read the whole book, page by page, and only pay if you want to keep it. A premium hardcover is $49.99 and the instant digital PDF is $14.99. Standard shipping is included in the hardcover price — the price you see is the total you pay. There is no subscription, and the version you approve is the version we print.

How soon will it get delivered?

Printing takes 4–5 business days, then the book ships. Orders to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and India typically arrive in 8–12 business days from the day you order. For other destinations the estimate for your address is shown at checkout. The digital PDF has no printing or shipping wait — it is delivered electronically shortly after purchase, which is the one to choose for a last-minute gift.

What size and quality is the printed book?

The hardcover is 32 pages, approximately 8.5 × 8.5 inches, printed on premium matte paper and bound as a keepsake meant to survive being read at bedtime for years.

What happens to my photos?

They are used only to illustrate your book. We do not sell them, we do not show them to anyone else, and we never use them to train AI models. Photos uploaded before you create an account are deleted automatically within 7 days. Once you have an account, uploads are held with your book so you can come back and finish it or order a reprint, and deleting your account deletes them. Email hello@celebrateally.com at any time and we will remove them sooner.

What if I need to cancel, or something is wrong with the book?

Email hello@celebrateally.com with your order number and we will sort it out. Cancelling: if your book has not entered production yet we will cancel it and refund you in full. Once it is at the printer we may not be able to stop it, but always ask and we will check. Damaged or misprinted: tell us within 30 days of delivery with a photo and we will reprint it free or refund you. You do not return the damaged book. Never arrived: if 30 days have passed since you ordered, choose a free reprint or a full refund — your call, no questions asked. Not happy with it: because you approve the finished book before paying, a printed book cannot usually be returned over a change of mind. But if the personalization or illustrations disappoint you, contact us within 30 days of delivery and tell us what to improve — we will correct it and send a replacement free, and if we cannot make it right we will refund you in full. You keep the original book either way.

Can I order more than one book?

Yes. You can order several copies of the same book — useful when grandparents want one too — and you can create as many different books as you like from one account. Each book is priced individually at $49.99 for a hardcover or $14.99 for a PDF, and each one is previewed and approved separately.

Tips for the perfect personalized Diwali book

A few small choices make the difference between a nice book and the one that comes out every year.

🎁

Use the words your child actually says

If family is in your photo, tag them and type Nani, Dada, Ammamma, Appuppa, Paati, Ajji exactly as your child says them and the book prints them that way. Families tell us this is the detail that makes the book feel like theirs rather than a template.

✍️

Answer the puja and sparkler questions honestly

They're there because families genuinely differ, not to be filled in. A book with a prayer scene your family doesn't have, or crackers you'd never light, is worse than one without either.

💡

Upload a clear, front-facing photo in natural light

Their face carries fourteen scenes that go from bright morning daylight to candlelight, so a bright, front-facing photo with no hats or sunglasses gives the most recognisable illustrations. A family photo is fine — just tag your child.

The Diwali Moments Worth Keeping

Diwali is a long, loud, wonderful day that's gone by midnight. These are the parts of it this book slows down and keeps.

The Morning Before Anything Has Happened

The house is still ordinary. Nothing is lit yet. But your child wakes up already knowing what day it is, and moves differently because of it.

Why it matters:

The book opens there, on an unlit diya on a windowsill — so the whole day still lies ahead, exactly as it does for them.

Kneeling Down to Make the Rangoli

The bit where they're allowed to pour the colour themselves, badly, and everyone says it's beautiful. The pattern is gone by the next evening.

Why it matters:

It's the page most families say they linger on, and it's the one thing about Diwali a child makes with their own hands.

The Words Only Your Family Uses

Not Grandma. Nani. Not Grandpa. Appuppa. The names a child learns before they learn anything else, and the ones no shop-bought book ever gets right.

Why it matters:

Tag family in your photo and you type them, we print them. For families raising children far from where those words come from, this is often the whole point of the book.

The House at Its Brightest

The ten minutes when every diya is lit, the rangoli is glowing, and your child steps back onto the road to look at what they helped make.

Why it matters:

That's page eleven, the widest illustration in the book — the moment the whole story has been building toward since the first page.

One Light Still On

Everyone's asleep, the plates are stacked, and one small diya is still going on the windowsill where it started.

Why it matters:

The book ends there rather than on the loudest part, so the last thing a child hears at bedtime is quiet — and the light is the same one from page one.

Why We Built This

CelebrateAlly was started to make celebrations more meaningful and personalized. Diwali is one of the most-celebrated festivals in the world and one of the worst-served by personalized gifts — most books assume one version of it, and most families don't celebrate that version. We built this one to follow YOUR Diwali: your child's face, your family's words, your traditions, and nothing assumed.

🤖

Your Child, Your Diwali

You share your child's name, their age, one photo, and what they love about Diwali. The AI then creates a personalized Diwali storybook illustrated to resemble them across all fourteen scenes. It isn't pulled from a template or a pre-written database — each book is created fresh from your answers.

🔒

Respectful by Design

The book tells one family's day, not a religious lesson. It never explains why Diwali is celebrated, never depicts a deity, idol or religious symbol, and never adds a ritual you didn't describe. Where families genuinely differ — a prayer moment, sparklers — we ask instead of assuming.

✨

Privacy is Personal

Your family's photos are yours alone. We never use your data to train models, sell to third parties, or share with anyone. Photos are processed securely and deleted after your book is created. Your story stays your story.
